Jam...and lots of it!

Wednesday night was spent making jam...and Thursday...and Friday! Rather than stand over a boiling pot I decided to use my breadmaker. I have had it for years and never used the jam setting as it just seems a bit odd!

First we (the boys and I) made seedless raspberry jam as Craig and Alistair like smooth jam best (moaned like mad last year when I didn't make any). Al spent the better part of an hour pushing the fruit through a seive. To start with a wooden spoon was used, then a pestle and finally we just used our hands (messy but fun!).

Four cups of sugar was put into the breadmaker along with four cups of fruit and half a lemon. Jam setting was selected and all we had to do was wait an hour and twenty minutes. Easy!

The first batch was lovely, slightly on the runny side but beautifully sweet. We couldn't wait on it cooling so it could be spread on some toast.

We ended up making seedless raspberry, raspberry, chunky strawberry (my favourite) and smooth strawberry. I think I counted twenty-five jars so that should keep us going for a while!

...next stop homemade ice-cream!
