Berry Nice!

Wednesday morning and we were all set to have a day berry picking at Cairnie Fruit farm. The weather had other ideas but undeterred we packed up the car and headed off.

Cairnie Fruit farm is so much more than just a fruit farm. The highlight is a huge six acre Maize Maze which is grown in a different shape each year. You have to find ten markers within the maze and believe me it's not easy! We split into two groups and it still took over an hour to complete the challenge. If that's not enough there are go-carts, trampolines, flying-fox and giant bales to name but a few other fun activities.

Once you are tired and hungry you can head to the cafe which is a real treat. All the cakes are made in the kitchen and there are quite a few gluten-free options. The best bit is they are not overpriced. A GF shorbread will cost you the same price as the normal one (£0.85). It is also the first place I have been to offering GF pitta pockets with chicken and salad. Yip "no need to go for the baked spud option" I hear you say!

We did the berry picking first as it was quite rainy and the cover on the strawberries kept us dry. There is something very therapeutic about berry picking, even the boys were quiet! Onto the raspberries and we think they were a different variety from last year as they were huge!

Once the berries were all paid for and packed away in the car it was time to spend the afternoon having fun and the day was ended with a delicious homemade ice-cream from the cafe. I opted for the strawberry variety (made with the farm's fruit) and it was deeeeeeeeeeelicious!

A great day out for adults and kids of all ages:
