I decided this week that I would work on perfecting the shortbread for the show. As I am now putting it on the side I have to make it in individual rounds. This alters the cooking times.
The first batch wasn't great, it had been overworked, was too soft and it just flattened out in the oven. It just didn't have the rich buttery texture and taste and was a real disappointment.
Batch 2 and I had it sussed. Beautiful taste and texture, just a bit on the big side. I need a tiny cutter.
Batch 3 went off with a bang...literally! The power tripped in the house as the cooker decided to pack it. How is that for bad timing! A quick phone call to a local repairer and they sent someone round that day. I really must use the "I need it fixed I am going on the telly" excuse more often as usually they can't send someone out for about a week!
Anyway it's fixed now so on with perfecting the shortbread...
