Good Food...Great Day!
Courtesy of The Big Issue (where I won tickets in a competition) Paul and I headed for a much deserved day out to The Good Food Show in Glasgow. Having never been before I was really excited at spending a day there and I wasn't disappointed. The sight of aisle upon aisle of various produce was amazing and the smells were tantalising!
We had quite a methodical approach of wandering up one aisle at a time and sampling the delights of each stand. It was quickly obvious that most of the produce was Scottish, something I never expected but was excited to see and taste. We tried sausages, cheese, fish and various chutneys to name but a few.
We treated ourselves to tickets to see Gordon Ramsay in the theatre and I have to say it was well worth the money. He was even better in the flesh and managed to cook a three course meal in forty-five minutes! This made us hungry and we had a quick bite to eat at the Masterchef cafe...a small main course for a fiver...nice but a bit odd eating it with a wooden fork and a plastic spoon!
We then went to A Taste of Scotland for a twenty five minute show 'Sweet Treats'. This was rather disappointing and wasn't worth the £3 a ticket.
If I could change one thing I would have ditched the £5 meal and the £3 ticket and opted for Nick Nairn's Cook School. It was £10 to cook a dish (quite a few on offer to choose from) and you got to eat it once you were done. I think it looked good fun and value for money.
All in all a great day out, especially since the tickets were free!

I'm so disappointed that I didn't manage to get to it, but it sounds like you had a blast.
ReplyDeleteIf you appreciate food and like to nibble on lots of freebies I would definitely recommend it!
ReplyDeleteI went to one a few years ago. It was okay, esp for the free nibbles.
